About the Project

Just weeks prior to this event, an earthquake devastated Sumatra, taking thousands of lives. This shifted the Music Bridge into a force of compassion and altruism. 28 top US and European artists and songwriters traveled to Bali and Jakarta, Indonesia to collaborate with their counterparts from Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, The Philippines, Hong Kong and Australia on the creation of original songs. This culminated in a charity concert performance, which raised over $500,000 USD for the Sumatran earthquake victims. The retreat was covered extensively by MTV Asia, the largest cable channel in Asia at the time.

“We were all nervous about this, but the excitement has been truly augmented by adding two, three, and even four cultures into the mix. Asian contributions gave it a fullness I’ve never experienced before.” - Victoria Shaw
